The Order of First Families of Connecticut

Resources for Research

The following outside websites are excellent sources for investigating your own ancestry. Sadly, the Order does not have the manpower to oblige personal requests for genealogical research, but the resources below have been very helpful to our members and others in the past.

  • New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS): the oldest genealogical society in the country. Access to databases, town guides, articles, and other online research services, as well as an online store with a large collection of books and other research aids for sale.

  • CTGenWeb: As part of the USGenWeb Project, CTGenWeb provides a single entry point for all counties and towns within the state of Connecticut where collected vital records and data may be stored.

  • Connecticut State Library: The State Library provides a variety of library, information, archival, public records, museum, and administrative services to citizens of Connecticut, as well as the employees and officials of all three branches of State government. The State Library also serves students, researchers, public libraries,  and town governments throughout the state.

  • Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild: Founded by a small group of people in late September of 1998, ISTG consists of over 500 volunteers who work diligently to decipher and transcribe passenger lists of immigrant ships, which are then uploaded to the ISTG website.

  • RootsWeb Connecticut: A free compendium resource hosted by Ancestry.com.

  • Subscription Ancestry Websites:
